Throughout the year, Alpha Chi Omega has philanthropy events with other Greek organizations and various clubs on campus. All of our members have something in common…they demonstrate service and compassion for others in need. Our goal at Alpha Chi is to encourage our members to continue their involvement in philanthropy and service at the collegiate level. At Alpha Chi Omega, we view philanthropy as a top priority and strive to instill a love for service in all of our members. As a chapter, we give back to Alpha Chi national causes, the local Tuscaloosa community and Alabama’s campus. Our philanthropy projects impact not only the local community but also national and international communities.
Our goal is develop “Real Strong Women”. This goal works in accordance with our national philanthropy, the awareness and prevention of domestic violence. In honor of Alpha Chi Omega’s national philanthropy, we host “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes” each fall to promote domestic violence awareness on our campus.
In addition, following the April 27th tornado that hit Tuscaloosa, we also strive to give back to the Tuscaloosa community in a meaningful way. We created the “Tee off for Tuscaloosa” golf tournament which raised $11,000 to rebuild Alberta Elementary School in its inaugural year. In Spring 2013, we expanded the event by placing it on our Parent’s Weekend and adding a Philanthropy Shopping Day where several Tuscaloosa stores donated a percentage of their proceeds to our cause. The event was a major success that brought 20 corporate sponsors and 60 players together to raise $14,00 for Love Inc. of Tuscaloosa County. Love, Inc. is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of needy Tuscaloosa County citizens through their Neighbor in Need ministry and transformational ministry. Our partnership with Love, Inc. includes hands-on experience, as our members frequently volunteer at the local Intake Center. This year, the golf tournament will raise money for Big Oak Ranch, a Birmingham organization that provides a home for children in need.
Outside of hosting our own events, Alpha Chi is dedicated to supporting other philanthropies and service groups on campus as well. For example, we formed a Relay for Life team to support the American Cancer Society, participated in Secret Meals for Hungry Children, and partnered with other Greek Houses on campus to raise $5,000 for Mobile Christmas tornado relief.
Beyond chapter wide service projects, our members are involved in various community service groups and initiatives across campus. We view giving back as a privilege and look forward to widening our efforts in the future. The main goal of the Philanthropy team at AXO is to ensure that the chapter has the resources and opportunities to get involved in various service projects.
