Involvement

A Letter From Our Vice President of Intellectual Development

Hi! My name is Avery Tucker and I have the honor of serving as the Vice President of Intellectual Development this year. Alpha Chi Omega has given me and all members a place to explore and follow our passions, encouraging us to excel academically through constant support with various resources to help us achieve our goals.

Going through recruitment I was seeking a house that valued academics, involvement, personal growth and a fulfilling four-year experience. Alpha Chi Omega aligned with all of the values I was seeking and many more. Alpha Chi Omega stood out to me during recruitment when I looked around the room to see that the active members embodied the woman I wanted to be at the end of my collegiate experience. This house represents a place where I knew I would be pushed beyond what I thought I could achieve. Today, as a junior looking back, I am grateful and honored to be a part of this house. I have grown beyond what I thought possible and excelled academically beyond what I thought I was capable of. None of this would have been possible without the support from Alpha Chi Omega.

Throughout my time as an Alpha Chi Omega, I have had many role models surrounding me in the house who help me keep my eyes set on my goals and help me achieve them. I have had members help me with my class schedule, give me advice during hard times and even encourage me to apply for various organizations that I am now a part of. The many resources our house provides such as resume reviews, mock interviews and everyday mentorship is unlike any other organization I have ever been a part of.

I decided to run for the position of Vice President of Intellectual Development as I wanted to encourage others to succeed and get involved as older Alpha Chi’s had done for me. Additionally, I wanted to broaden everyone’s view of success as Alpha Chi has helped me do over the past years. Success means seeking out opportunities that you personally are fit for. Success means grades and involvement are a side effect of bettering yourself on a larger scale. I strive to help each and every member excel academically, find opportunities that suit their goals and passions and help prepare them for their next steps after college with a redefined version of success. I look forward to serving our house this year and cannot wait to continue to learn, grow and help others do the same!

Chapter Honors

Alpha Chi Omega is proud to be the recipient of the Kathleen Cramer Homecoming Spirit Cup for the fifth year in a row. Along with this great honor we were awarded the National Council Trophy that is given to the chapter of Alpha Chi Omega, among 148 chapters nationwide, that has the highest cumulative score based on achievements, chapter management, member support and development.

Academic Honors

Academic excellence is something that our chapter values greatly and strives for each semester. Through all of our members' hard work in the Spring of 2023 we were able to achieve an average GPA of a 3.80 overall that is higher than the all APA GPA, all sorority GPA, all greek GPA, all undergraduate women GPA and all undergraduate GPA. This hard work has allowed us to be in the top three academic sororities for over thirty years, sustaining the legacy that prior members have left on our chapter and campus. In the Spring of 2023, we had 186 members or 42% of our chapter on the President’s List for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA and 173 members or 39% of our chapter on the Dean’s List for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or above. This means that 81% of our chapter maintained a GPA of 3.5 or above in the Spring of 2023. Due to our members’ academic success, each spring our members are recognized with membership into some of the top honor societies on campus such as Anderson Society, Mortar Board, Omicron Delta Kappa, Lambda Sigma, Blue Key and the Cardinal Key Honor Society. In addition, many of our members are part of prestigious programs offered at the University of Alabama such as the University Fellows Experience, Randall Research Scholars, McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars, Blount Scholars Program, STEM Path to the MBA, CREATE path to the MBA and the Blackburn Institute. We are so proud of all of our members' success and cannot wait to see what they accomplish academically this upcoming year!

Campus Leadership

Alpha Chi Omega takes pride in the great and varied involvement of our members and their leadership in these organizations. Not only are many of our members involved in other organizations, but they are running them. We have members elected into Student Government Association as senators in their respective colleges and serving on the executive board. We are home to Capstone Women and have members serving on the Panhellenic Executive Board and as president. Additionally, we have members involved in and on the executive boards of Honors College Ambassadors, Culverhouse College of Business Ambassadors, Greek Ambassadors, Capstone College of Nursing Ambassadors, University Stewards and many more. Last year 14 of our members were initiated into the Order of the Omega and we had 3 members named Order of the Omega’s Most Outstanding Freshman, Sophomore and Junior. Each year we have members tapped into the premier all women’s honor society, the XXXI. While these are a few highlights of what our members are involved in, the breadth of involvement of the members of our chapter continues to grow each year and we are so proud of our members excellent leadership in our community and beyond.

Community Involvement

Alpha Chi Omegas are not only involved in the University of Alabama community but in the Tuscaloosa community as a whole. In regards to involvement in athletics we are proud to have student athletes on the University of Alabama Dance Team, the University of Alabama Cheer Team, the University of Alabama Field Hockey Team, and the University of Alabama Hockey Team as well as many members participating in intramural athletics. In addition, we have members involved in Crimson Chaos and members interning for Alabama Athletics as Marketing Interns. While many of our members are passionate about our philanthropic cause, Domestic Violence Awareness, our members are also involved with other philanthropic causes. We have members who are part of the UA Dance Marathon, the B+ organization, Al’s Pals, HopeU, Beat Auburn Beat Hunger, and many more. Other organizations that members are involved in are Capstone Agency, First Year Council, Freshman Forum, Culverhouse Investment Management Group, the Investment Banking Academy, the Chimes Retreat, and various campus ministries. We love and encourage our members to follow their passions and get involved in things they are interested in.
